Absolut Elyx is a small batch vodka made in a 1929 vintage rectification still, with columns, pumps and hand-forged pipes all in copper and is made exclusively rom hand-selected wheat from Råbelöf, an estate near Åhus Skåne Sweden. Master Distiller Krister Asplund personally supervised the old world techniques using an entire manually operated system and tastes every batch.The Elyx brand was first announced in late 2010, and launched in Canada, Greece, Korea and Mexico and is expected to roll out across the US in the third quarter of 2011. With worldwide distribution of Elyx eminent, the future of Absolut Level remains uncertain. Level was produced and launched in 2004 by the Swedish Government company Vin & Spirit as a direct competitor to Grey Goose Vodka, and while it received critical acclaim, it never achieved consumer interest or sales.
Pernod-Ricard purchased the Absolut Brand in 2008, and Absolut Elyx will also aim for luxury drinkers of super premium, higher priced and marketed vodkas. The copper pot still method is the same used by the Dutch Nolet Family, the makers of Ketel One Vodka, which is distributed by Diageo.
Andreas Larsson, who was the World Champion Sommelier in 2007, and one of the world’s most renowned sommeliers said, “Absolut Elyx is a finely tuned vodka with character and elegance”.
